Katerina Triantafyllidi holds a BSc/Integrated Master’s degree in Biological Applications and Technology from the University of Ioannina, Greece. She is currently a PhD candidate at Harokopio University (Department of Geography), in collaboration with the Institute of GeoEnergy (FORTH). Her doctoral research is entitled “Comparative study of Blue Carbon storage services in coastal ecosystems of the Adriatic and the Ionian Seas.”

Her research interests lie in marine ecology and coastal vegetation dynamics, with a particular emphasis on Coastal Blue Carbon ecosystems. She focuses on seagrass meadows, especially Posidonia oceanica, a key Mediterranean species that forms extensive habitats with a high capacity for carbon sequestration and long-term storage. More broadly, her work relates to carbon cycling in coastal systems and the role of seagrass ecosystems in climate regulation, including emerging questions on greenhouse gas fluxes associated with ecosystem disturbance and degradation.

Following the completion of her studies, Katerina participated in an Erasmus+ exchange programme as a recent graduate. Her internship took place at the Institute of Marine Sciences of Andalusia (ICMAN-CSIC) in Cádiz, Spain. She has also completed an internship at the Institute of Fisheries Research – ELGO-DIMITRA, in Kavala, Greece.
