Aikaterini Triantafyllidi holds a BSc/Integrated Master’s degree in Biological Applications and Technology from the University of Ioannina, Greece. She is currently a PhD Candidate at Harokopio University, Department of Geography, in collaboration with the Institute of GeoEnergy (FORTH). Her PhD thesis focuses on the “Comparative study of the regulatory ecosystem services of Blue Carbon sequestration in coastal ecosystems of the Adriatic and Ionian Seas.”

Her interests include marine ecology, marine vegetation, and ichthyology. In particular, she is interested in Coastal Blue Carbon Ecosystems, with an emphasis on seagrass meadows. Her research focuses on the species Posidonia oceanica, which flowers in the Mediterranean Sea. P. oceanica forms extensive meadows and exhibits a remarkable capacity for capturing and storing carbon, due to the formation of a structure named “matte”, in its sediment.

Following the completion of her BSc studies, Aikaterini participated in an Erasmus+ exchange program as a recent graduate. Her internship took place at the Institute of Marine Sciences of Andalusia (ICMAN-CSIC) in Cádiz, Spain. She has also completed an internship at the Institute of Fisheries Research –ELGO-Dimitra, in Kavala, Greece.
