Short CV

Efsevia (Voula) Fragkou holds a Diploma in Chemical Engineering from the University of Patras, an MSc in Petroleum Engineering from the Technical University of Crete (MRED), and a PhD in Chemical and Environmental Engineering from the Technical University of Crete (CHENVENG), conducted in collaboration with the Institute of GeoEnergy (FORTH/IG). Her PhD thesis, entitled “Integrated approach for hydrocarbon degradation in deep-sea environments using different bioremediation agents”, was completed in 2026. She began her doctoral studies in November 2020 as part of the DEEPSEA project (“DEEPSEA-Bioremediation of hydrocarbon releases in Deep Sea”), funded by H.F.R.I. and G.S.R.T. Her doctoral research focused mainly on the bioremediation of deep-sea environments from petroleum hydrocarbons. Since 2022, she has been a Scientific Associate at FORTH/IG, contributing to the X-PRESS project (“X-PRESS-EXtreme environments: High PRESsure Sampling and experimentation system for deep sea hydrocarbon releases”) and, more recently, to the BLUEQ project (“Applied Solutions for Monitoring Coastal Habitats and Quantifying Blue Carbon Storage: An Integrated Approach for Sustainable Ecosystem Management”). Within BLUEQ, her work includes the preparation of protocols for sediment sample treatment and storage for blue carbon quantification, as well as contributions to sampling activities, project deliverables and reports.

Throughout her studies, Efsevia Fragkou has been involved in a number of different topics, such as LNG production technologies and process simulation as part of her Master’s degree and biofuel production from lignocellulosic biomass, at the Institute of Chemical Engineering Sciences (FORTH/ICE-HT), as part of her Diploma. She has successfully completed a series of seminars from the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens regarding “CO2 Industry Carbon Capture, Storage & Utilization (CCS & CCU)” (2021–2022), and “Health and Safety Management & Environmental Protection of Industrial Enterprises” (2020–2021). She has participated in the writing of research articles and has presented related work at international and European conferences (EBC-VIII, ISMOS8, PESXM13, Mikrobiokosmos9).
