Dr. Marios Antonakakis is an Assistant Professor of Artificial Intelligence at the Department of Electronic Engineering of the Hellenic Mediterranean University. He holds a Diploma in Electronic and Computer Engineering and an MSc in Biomedical Engineering from the Technical University of Crete, and received his PhD from the Technical University of Ilmenau, Germany. He is a research collaborator with the Technical University of Crete and the Institute for Biomagnetism and Biosignal Analysis (Germany).
He specializes in Artificial Intelligence, signal and image processing, and the modeling of complex systems, with applications in energy and environmental systems, circular economy, and healthcare. His research work includes more than 80 scientific publications and participation and coordination in numerous European and national research projects (Horizon 2020, Horizon Europe, EIT-HEI, EIT RawMaterials), with a focus on the development of predictive models, digital twins, and decision-support systems.
He has received international awards and fellowships (IKY, Onassis Foundation, European Union) and serves as editor in Nature Scientific Reports and Brain Organoid and Systems Neuroscience (Elsevier), as well as reviewer for more than 10 international scientific journals.
