Principal Researcher of the Foundation for Research and Technology –Hellas (FORTH), Institute of Petroleum Research (IPR), Dr. Spyros Bellas participated as an Invited Speaker in the 5th Pan-Cretan -International Energy & Exhibition Conference- between July 8th and 10th 2021, held in Heraklion/Crete (Creta Convention Center), and organized by the CEC (Cretan Energy Conferences).
His talk on the “Exploration for CCS (CO2 Capture & Geological Storage) Potential in Greece and Key Controlling Factors”, was given at the Workshop Session no.2 (Wk2) - Oil and Gas E&P Technical Solutions and the Roadmap to 2050 and Energy Transition -. Since Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) is an emerging app field for O&G in relation to the EU target for Net Zero emissions in 2050, he explained why should we push forward with CCS, without ignoring the key issues when copying with such kind of innovative technologies. Moreover, he pointed out the importance of continuing exploration, including CO2 Geo-storage locating areas, the controlling factors and why and how the IPR-FORTH is involved. His presentation included potential examples from Greece and the future challenges. The discussion continued during a Roundtable session that followed, moderated by Dr. Charles Ellinas.
