Panagiotis Partsinevelos is a Professor in the fields of Geoinformatics and Unmanned Systems and Director of the Laboratory of Geodesy and Informatics of Geosciences at the School of Mineral Resources Engineering of the Technical University of Crete. He received his PhD from the Spatial Informatics Engineering Department at the University of Maine, part of the US National Center for Geographic Information and Analysis (NCGIA) and the NASA Center of Excellence for Satellite Remote Sensing. He holds a Dipl. Eng. in Surveying Engineering from the National Technical University of Athens and has worked as a postdoctoral fellow at the Research Academic Institute of Computer Technology of the University of Patras and as a visiting researcher at the National Centre for Geosciences of Germany (GFZ). In addition to his scientific publications, editorial positions and research projects as a coordinator, he has served as national representative of the Galileo and Copernicus Masters competitions in the field of space innovation. His scientific interests are related to the development of space technologies in various fields of study and include, among others: design, manufacturing and programming of autonomous unmanned systems; real-time image analysis and processing; underwater, surface, aerial and land-based collaborative robotic systems; artificial intelligence/deep learning algorithms for 3D reconstruction and off-Earth navigation; precision mapping in challenging environments; e-government and smart cities; location-based services and environmental monitoring of the Earth using satellite data. Dr. Partsinevelos leads the multi-disciplinary research team Senselab, which consists of more than 30 researchers and specializes in research and development of innovative products, and has been awarded in various scientific fields by prestigious international organizations such as: Airbus (countering human trafficking), MIT (innovation for refugees), European Union (Big Data for Space), European Satellite Positioning Services Company - GSA (autonomous drone mapping), Joint Research Center - JRC (road accident prevention), European Space Agency - ESA (natural disaster management).
