The Institute of Geoenergy joins the "Regional Committee for Hydrogen in Crete"

The Institute of Geoenergy of FORTH proudly announces its participation in the newly established Advisory Committee "Committee for Hydrogen in Crete", formed by the Region of Crete with the goal of promoting the use and development of hydrogen technologies on the island.

The Institute is represented in the Committee by:

  • Prof. Ioannis Yentekakis, Director of the Institute of Geoenergy and Professor at the Technical University of Crete (regular member),
  • and Dr. Emmanouil Stamatakis, Researcher at the Institute (alternate member).

This initiative is part of the Region of Crete’s broader strategy for energy transition and sustainable development, where hydrogen is expected to play a key role in decarbonization and innovation.

Objectives of the Committee:

  • To provide expert advice and recommendations to the Regional Council of Crete regarding hydrogen deployment.
  • To foster collaboration with academic and research institutions, governmental bodies, private stakeholders, and local communities.
  • To collect and share international best practices and experiences in hydrogen technologies.
  • To propose tailored applications and uses of hydrogen for Crete’s specific needs and opportunities.

With its strong scientific background and specialized expertise, the Institute of Geoenergy actively supports policy and innovation initiatives that promote sustainability, energy autonomy, and climate resilience in Crete.
